Fight against counterfeiting in martial law

At the initiative of the Ukrainian Alliance Against Counterfeiting and Piracy, with the assistance of the Directorate of Non-Tariff Regulation, a short-term seminar was held on June 15, 2022 for customs officials of Ukraine (33 employees from 19 customs houses). The purpose of the event was to discuss changes in the national system of promoting the protection of intellectual property rights in martial law and to mark the “World Anti-Counterfeiting Day”, launched in 1998 by the World Anti-Counterfeiting Group.

The event was opened by Mr Vladislav Suvorov, Deputy Head of the State Customs Service of Ukraine; Ms Oksana Pashchenko, Head of the Directorate of Non-Tariff Regulation of the State Customs Service of Ukraine; Mr Leonid Muromtsev, Head of the Division of Protection of intellectual property rights and others.

Mr Vitianis Alishauskas, International Key Expert on Customs, EU Public Finance Management  Support Programme for Ukraine (EU4PFM), representatives of the European Business Association (Mr Alexander Lazarev, Co-Chair of the EBA Customs Committee), American Chamber of Commerce (Ms Kateryna Oliinyk, Co-Chair of the Intellectual Property Committee), National Association of Patent Attorneys of Ukraine (Ms Yuliia Prokhoda, Member of the Board of the National Association of Patent Attorneys of Ukraine (NAPA), Patent Attorney of Ukraine, Lawyer, National Geographical Expert) and rights holders (Patent law firm “Pakharenko & Partners”, Mr Oleksandr Pakharenko and Veronika Berezanska), Odessa Customs (Mr Artem Tyshchenko, Head of the Division of Protection of Intellectual Property Rights) were invited to take part in specialized training.

Topical issues related to the protection of intellectual property rights in wartime, including the destruction of counterfeit goods, the work of the UAIS of the State Customs Service of Ukraine “Customs Register of Intellectual Property Rights”, quality presentation of the description of intellectual property, description and photographic images of each individual type of original goods containing such an object of intellectual property rights for the purposes of identification by customs authorities of goods containing such an object of intellectual property rights were discusses during the event.
