The Fourth Online Global Conference of the WCO Network for Gender Equality and Diversity in Customs, gathering an unprecedented number of participants – over 220 officials from around the world – demonstrated the growing international attention to the need to promote gender equality in customs and law enforcement.
Among them was Tetiana Korzhynska, the representative of the State Customs Service, who was elected as Vice-Chair of the WCO Virtual Working Group on Gender Equality and Diversity for 2024 – 2025.
The event was dedicated to the exchange of experiences and best practices in the field of Gender Equality and Diversity in customs administrations, including discussions on ways to:
- combat gender discrimination and sexual harassment in the workplace;
- implement inclusive hiring practices;
- raise awareness among customs officers of gender-sensitive policies;
- promote the expansion of practices that take into account gender aspects and ensure equal opportunities for all trade participants.
Participants expressed confidence that the global trend of creating an inclusive work environment that reflects the diversity of society and provides equal opportunities for all is essential for the effective operation of both customs and law enforcement agencies.
