Using X-ray equipment in the course of performing customs control

Taking into account the current threats and the need to strengthen efforts to prevent the illegal movement of prohibited items across the customs border of Ukraine, on October 13 representatives of the customs of the Republic of Finland organized and conducted a training course on using of X-ray equipment in the course of performing customs control for officials of units of technical means of customs control and customs clearance, who use scanning systems of the stationary type for the inspection of baggage and international postal items in their activities.

The training was conducted remotely by Immo Kilpine, Customs Official of the Republic of Finland, in Microsoft Teams Meeting.

The following issues were considered during the event:

• nature of X-rays;

• device of a small scanning system based on the example of Smith Detection Equipment, its principle of operations, as well as interface;

• interpretation of X-ray  images using examples;

• organization of customs control in the Republic of Finland at checkpoints using a scanning system.

The main purpose of the participation of officials of the Department for Specialized Training and Canine Services of the State Customs Service of Ukraine in the course was to use the acquired knowledge, skills and abilities on how to train operators for the analysis of X-ray images of territorial bodies of the State Customs Service.
