Representatives of the Department for Specialized Training and Canine Services of the State Customs Service took part in the webinar “The role of advanced technologies in cross-border trade: a customs perspective, which was jointly held on March 29 by the World Customs Organization (WCO) and the World Trade Organization (WTO). More than 1,400 participants had a great opportunity to get acquainted with  best practices on implementation of modern technologies in control of international trade, as well as to receive answers to their questions and pieces of advice from international experts on how to implement relevant projects in their countries. In his remarks, Mr. Ricardo Treviño Chapa, the WCO Deputy Secretary General said: “Improving the quality of control, reducing paperwork, avoiding duplication of tasks are main priorities for implementation of modern technologies. The key challenge to developing new approaches is that information exchange should be provided not only among customs authorities, but also with other government agencies, international organizations and the private sector. The results of the introduction of new technologies in previous years are summarized in a joint publication of the WCO and the WTO, which is already available online.  (https://www.wto.org/english/res_e/publications_e/wcotech22_e.htm)” − During the webinar, a wide range of areas was presented, international efforts have been successfully undertaken, contributing to automatization of information exchange processes, including: authorized economic operator, logistics data, e-commerce, certificates of origin. Special attention was paid to creation of a large list of mobile Internet applications that allow to exchange of information in real time. For example, X-ray and CT scanners, QR code readers, Automated licence plate readers, e-seal application, application for tracking goods in transit, e-gates application for passengers at airports, etc. The organizers said that more detailed information on the introduction of modern technologies in customs will be provided at the WCO conference “Driving Customs Performance with Data and Technology in the Changing Landscape of Global Trade”, which will be held in October this year in Maastricht, the Netherlands.
