Participation in gender discussions with an international audience around issues of combating terrorism, violent extremism and radicalization

Representatives of border and customs administrations of various countries, international organizations and the Department for Specialized Training and Canine Services of the State Customs Service engaged in a webinar “Gendered Aspects of Terrorism, Violent Extremism and Radicalization” held in a zoom-conference on June 16, 2023.

The event was organized by the Border Security and Management Unit of the OSCE Transnational Threats Department.

The event was devoted to discussing the issues of:

  • How does gender intersect with terrorism and violent extremism? 
  • How is it relevant for the activity of border officers across the OSCE area and beyond?
  • What is the impact of gender biases and stereotypes in combating terrorism and violent extremism and radicalization?
  • How does gender awareness lead to better operational effectiveness and human rights compliance in border security and management?

Within the agenda of the online event, Ms. Geritt Zach, Programme Officer, OSCE Transnational Threats Department/Action against Terrorism Unit and Mr. Manuel Eising, Senior Legal Adviser, OSCE Transnational Threats Department/Action against Terrorism Unit delivered their statements, in which various aspects of terrorism, violent extremism and radicalization were considered.
