55 male and female members the WCO Virtual Working Group (WCO VWG) on Gender Equality and Diversity (GED) met through an online conference on the 24-25th of May 2023 to discuss the WCO’s efforts to promote gender equality and diversity in Customs.
During the meeting, male and female representatives from 32 customs administrations, including a representative of the Department for Specialized Training and Canine Services of the State Customs Service, exchanged opinions and ideas on strengthening further work to promote GED, discussed the results of the annual survey of the World Customs Organization and the training for trainers held in March of this year VWG, and an updated version of the Gender Equality Organizational Assessment Tool (GEOAT) was also presented.
In addition, all participants had the opportunity to consider the Gender Mainstreaming Strategy in the field of law enforcement activities in Indonesia and learn about the experience of promoting GED in the German Customs Service through the lens of security. It is worth noting that Germany joined the VWG for the first time.
At the end of the event, the male and female representatives of each country elected a new chairman and deputy chairman of the WVG on GED for the period 2023-2024.
